The above is the line most commonly seen if we browse through the political blogs these days. To say the bombshell dropped in the form of a statutory declaration (SD) made by Raja Petra Kamarudin (RPK) has been sensational is an understatement.
The citizens court judging, name-calling, motives-speculating have become the things to do these days. In the midst of all these, it is worth bearing in mind the ways in which the legal institutions and the rule of law can be easily invoked and exploited to further one’s ambitious political mileage. We don’t have to go through the historical ugly past of our judiciary to understand this point. Yet I see that certain quarters have been quick to conclude that since it is a document which carries the force of law, there must be a certain degree of truth behind the declaration.
Now I am neither supporting nor against any party, I ask for the truth and justice be done to a woman with such misfortune and her family. But what I wish to highlight here may be much to the dismay of certain well-intended parties who are correctly concerned that the media glare and diverted attention might be detrimental to the objective enquiry that this case is called for.
What I’m trying to bring to light is that, arguably (and evidentially) some people think that RPK will be foolish to risk his neck for making a false SD, and hence this lends weight to the believe that there must be a certain degree of truth in what he alleged. However, it is worth noting that the connection between RPK and Anwar is by no means subtle. RPK played a significant role in the events leading up to the March General Election, and was a key-figure of the Free Anwar Movement. If viewed with that in mind, it is not too remote to see RPK playing the role of a kingmaker. And if Anwar manages to get enough defections to take over the Federal Government come Sept 16th as claimed, then the kingmaker will be rewarded very handsomely indeed, yes? By act AND omission. Do remember that the state only presses charges if initiated by the AG, and the AG serves the present day government. Yes RPK is facing a sedition charge, but the trial is only commencing in October. And if this theory holds, it matters not whether what is claimed in that SD is truthful at all, if it merely forms part of the plan to dismantle the present day government.
This angle contributes to a different answer that can be formed to the question of RPK’s motive in making the SD. Now I as in everyone else know not who is telling the truth here, but I see a great distortion that the blogsphere is taking on, that one man MUST be telling the truth and the others must be lying.
